A New York man’s conviction in his home state clears the way for him to be extradited to face a murder charge in connection with the slaying of a woman in Down East Maine.

Carine Reeves, 38, of New York City is expected to transferred to Maine after he’s sentenced Aug. 7 for first-degree assault, according to the Maine Attorney General’s Office.

Reeves and Quaneysha Greeley, 20, also of New York City are charged with murder. They are scheduled tentatively to be tried in December at the Washington County Courthouse in Machias.

They were arrested a year ago in New York in connection with the death of Sally Shaw, 55, of New Gloucester. Her body was found July 19, 2017, on Route 193 by a passing motorist, according to previously published reports.

Shaw’s rental car was found about 11 miles away with front-end damage at the intersection of Routes 193 and 9.

She died of a single gunshot wound to the head and a .45 caliber casing was found about 6 feet from her body, affidavits filed in Washington County Superior Court said. Shaw allegedly drove for Reeves when he came to Maine to sell drugs.

A specific motive for the slaying has not been made public, but according to court documents, Reeves was romantically involved with both women.

Greeley was extradited to Maine last year. She has pleaded not guilty to the charge and is being held without bail.

Reeves remained in New York due to the pending assault charge. He was convicted July 17 by a jury, according to a spokeswoman for the Queens County District Attorney’s Office.

He was accused of slashing the face of a 36-year-old woman at about 12:55 a.m. Feb. 25, 2017, in front of a gas station in the Ozone Park section of Queens. The victim had a laceration on her face from the middle of her left ear to her left nostril, the complaint alleged. It took 16 to 20 stitches to close the wound.

On that charge, he faces up to 25 years in a New York prison.

If convicted of murder in Maine, Reeves and Greeley each face up 25 years to life in prison in the state. Reeves could be tried in Maine for murder before serving all of his sentence in New York. If convicted in Maine, he’d have to finish serving his sentence in New York before he would be transferred to a Maine prison.
