WEST BATH, Maine — A convicted murderer who served 21 years for killing a florist in 1994 now stands accused of threatening his father with a knife on an outing from the Riverview Psychiatric Center.
A judge on Monday ordered 54-year-old Mark Gessner held on $50,000 bail for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon. His lawyer said he’d likely be returned to Riverview if he posts bail.
The Kennebec Journal reports the new charges stem from an incident Sunday morning while Gessner was retrieving belongings from the Bath home belonging to his father and his brother.
Mark Gessner was committed to Riverview after being found not criminally responsible for aggravated assault and trafficking in prison contraband. In May, he won permission from a judge to have unsupervised time outside the state hospital in Augusta.
