Good morning. Temperatures will be in the high 30s and mid-40s, with sunny skies throughout the state.

Here’s what we’re talking about in Maine today.

This Maine couple turned their garage into a haunted pirate ship

–Carol Cody and Bob Gross turned their garage into a pirate ship a couple years ago. Since then, the Penobscot couple have turned their pirate ship into a full-fledged haunted house experience each fall that is open to the public for free for a few days around Halloween.

This year, the theme for the ship is Peter Pan, so Gross will spend two days dressed as Captain Hook, his daughter April will dress up as Peter Pan, and a small army of local elementary- and middle-school students will play pirates and Lost Boys.

LePage’s legal feud with Mills shifts to her run for governor

–After his administration was sued by Attorney General Janet Mills over withholding millions from her office, Gov. Paul LePage injected himself into her Nov. 6 race to succeed him and compared her to former Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton.

It was the second legal volley between the Republican governor and Mills this week. On Monday, he announced that he would appeal a judge’s ruling in favor of Mills in a lawsuit over her power to weigh in on out-of-state lawsuits to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.

–Maine biologists say applying insecticide to clothing, performing body checks after heading afield can help hunters avoid potential problems.

“This is a significant health risk for us, but at the same time, we want everybody to be able to get out there and hunt,” state moose biologist Lee Kantar said.

In Hancock, derelict and toxin-laden land is slowly coming back to life

–To judge it geographically, the big building at 49 Tannery Road should be the heart of Hancock’s business community.

The property has problems, though, and by the name of the road it is on, you can guess what they are. It’s the site of a former leather tannery, once one of Hancock’s largest employers, and though it was partially cleaned up thanks to $370,000 in federal grants, the property needs hundreds of thousands of dollars more in cleanup work before the town can market it to potential developers.

What’s the deal with that $950-million CMP project everyone’s talking about?

–It’ll actually cost about $1.1 billion, once interest is tacked on.

The controversial project, which aims to transport hydropower through Maine to Massachusetts, will include an underground power line through the scenic Kennebec River Gorge.

Even at $1.1 billion, the project is cheaper than competitive bids coming from Vermont and New Hampshire.

–Lydia Gavner doesn’t have a lot of free time on her hands. As a senior at the University of Maine, the New York native is a key contributor on the field hockey team while participating in a rigorous ROTC program in preparation for a military career.
