SCARBOROUGH, Maine — A man has been charged, after police say he stabbed a teenager in the parking lot at a local high school.

Police say the stabbing took place in the Scarborough High School parking lot at halftime of Friday’s soccer game.

Prosecutors have charged 20-year-old Nicolas Blanchard with aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing a 15-year-old student in the chest.

Police say at first, the teen didn’t realize he’d been stabbed.

It was only when the bleeding wouldn’t stop that he went to the hospital for stitches, that he realized what happened.

Police say when questioning the suspect, before saying anything about the victim’s injuries, Blanchard told them, “I did not stab him.”

Police say after Blanchard gave them consent to search his car, they found four knives and one had blood on it.

Superintendent Julie Kukenberger sent a letter to parents Tuesday to tell them what happened.

She says she’s also meeting with police to look at steps they can take to make after school events at the school safer.

CBS 13 spoke to the 15-year-old boy who was allegedly stabbed.

He was back in school Tuesday and says he’s sore, but is doing OK.
