Ogunquit voters will see eight local referendum questions on the ballot next Tuesday, with Question 2 on the newly drafted Comprehensive Plan drawing the most attention prior to election day.
A divided crowd of residents spoke recently at a public hearing during a Select Board meeting both in favor and against the newly drafted Comprehensive Plan that made the warrant under a citizen’s petition.

Proponents believe the plan is more streamlined than the current one that was drafted in 2002 and is over 300 pages long, and covers more modern needs in the town like high speed broadband service, public transportation needs, green tourism, and a community planning program for senior needs.
Opponents feel that the new plan is too general, does not address conservation needs adequately, and eliminates environmental safeguards.
A copy of the full new plan is available in the Town Clerk’s office and online at the town website.

Question 3 increases the fine for people who enter the restricted dunes and other portions of Ogunquit Beach from $50 to $200, and adds a $200 fine for violations to the animal control ordinance which outlines the dates and areas dogs are allowed on the beach. It also prohibits ponies and horses on Ogunquit Beach, including the Ogunquit River Estuary year-round.
Four articles ask voters to approve changes to the town’s zoning ordinance.
Polls will be open in Ogunquit on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the Dunaway Community Center, 23 School St.
