After days of rain, the sun shined brightly Sunday as dozens of families trekked across the soggy turf of Bangor Municipal Golf Course to try their luck at the fourth annual Kids Fishing Day. Crowding around the edge of a pond near the second hole, they cast their lines in hopes of catching some of the 175 brook trout that swam in the murky water.

Later this month, Rockland city councilors will review a historic preservation ordinance designed to safeguard the city’s landmarks and properties with historical value. The curator of the Rockland Historical Sociey, who helped draft the ordinance, said that the city offers a rare mix of architectural trends and landmarks, in part, because its residents have not always been prosperous, so they did not have the money to regularly replace one style with a more modern one.

“Downtown Bucksport: A Place to Dock, Dine and Shop” is the title of two 30-second spots that aired on local television and the internet in July and August. The spots will run again next year from Memorial Day to the Fourth of July, according to Richard Rotella, the town’s economic development director.
