Stonewall Kitchen, a specialty food producer based in York, said it would open its first West Coast retail location on Wednesday inside a Macy’s store in California.

The company will open a Stonewall Kitchen Cooking School and Cafe. It already sells online, and has nine retail locations in York, Camden and Portland, Maine; Rochester, North Conway and Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Newburyport, Massachusetts; and South Windsor, Connecticut.

“The Macy’s in California will be the first time we’re opening a second Cooking School and Cafe,” Stonewall spokeswoman Margaux Maertens said.

The new location is in the Macy’s South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California.

The Stonewall Cafe will sell the same classic New England fare as the Stonewall Kitchen’s flagship York location, including the best-selling lobster B.L.T. sandwich, New England clam chowder and the haddock sandwich with Down East tartar sauce.

Children can get the award-winning Cafe Burger or the peanut butter and jelly sandwich made with Stonewall Kitchen wild Maine blueberry jam.

The Stonewall Cooking School will offer a variety of demonstration classes for lunch and dinner with chef instructors. Sample classes will include the New England Indoor Clam Bake, East Coast Meets West Coast and Brunchtime Delights, along with an annual celebration of Julia Child and other special events. There are seats for 24 students in the class.

John Stiker, Stonewall Kitchen’s CEO, said his company has been working with Macy’s since 2002, and its products are sold in more than 500 Macy’s locations.

During the holidays, Stonewall and Macy’s collaborate to create custom gift packaging exclusively for Macy’s.

“The launch of our new Cooking School and Cafe inside their Costa Mesa location represents a logical and exciting evolution of our relationship, as we both look to create interesting and interactive retail experiences for our guests that can’t be found anywhere else,” Stiker said.

Sue Graham-Sparks, the vice president and store manager of Macy’s at South Coast Plaza, said she sent staff to Maine for weeks to replicate the Stonewall Kitchen experience by offering the same menu and cooking classes, and focusing on the details that make the experience special, such as lobsters from Maine and New England wooden bead board fixtures.
