A tree that collapsed under the weight of snow and ice cut off power to almost 3,800 Emera Maine customers in the Blue Hill area Tuesday morning, according to the utility. Another 100 customers in Deer Isle were also without power.
The utility company expects to restore service to the customers by noon.
The customers in Hancock County accounted for nearly all of the outages reported in Emera Maine’s service territory as of mid-morning Tuesday. The utility also reported that almost 350 customers in Washington County were without power.
The Hancock County towns affected by the outages include Blue Hill, Brooklin, Brooksville, Deer Isle, Sedgwick and Stonington.
Customers encountering a downed line or a tree in contact with one are urged to steer clear and call 911 or Emera to report the issue.
Customers can report outages via Emera’s website or by calling (207) 973-2000 or 1-855-EMERA11 (1-855-363-7211).
