A Verona Island man has been sentenced to serve two years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to making crystal meth.
Craig D. Kneeland, 28, received an overall sentence Tuesday of four-and-a-half years in prison with all but two years suspended after having pleaded guilty earlier this month to charges of aggravated operation of a meth lab and aggravated criminal mischief. He will have to serve three years of probation after he is released, according to documents filed in Hancock County Unified Criminal Court in Ellsworth.

Kneeland was arrested last March after police got a tip that he was manufacturing methamphetamine at his home while on bail from the earlier drug possession charges. Kneeland shared the home with other people, including a five-year-old child. During a subsequent search of the home, police found a loaded handgun in a kitchen cabinet and evidence that the home had caught on fire recently because of a drug-making session.
Court documents indicate that since his arrest, Kneeland has been getting treatment for substance use.
