In a battle between two low-seeded teams, No. 13 Madison emerged victorious after pulling away from No. 12 Traip Academy of Kittery in the second half to win 50-35 Tuesday at the Augusta Civic Center in a C South quarterfinal match.

Madison’s record improves to 7-13 for the season. Traip’s season ends with a 8-12 record.

Both teams made a surprising appearance in the quarterfinal with their respective upset preliminary wins.

Madison surprisingly dominated No. 4 Hebron Academy, winning the game 39-16. The Rangers used a productive second half to outscore No. 5 Hall-Dale 39-35.

Madison will face the winner of today’s game between No. 1 Boothbay (18-0) and No. 8 Saint Dominic Acad. (12-7) in the semifinals. That match will be held Thursday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.
