Fire burned a summer home in Standish Tuesday, causing significant damage to the building.

Crews responded to the property on Sandy Cove Extension, which is off of Route 114.

When firefighters first got there, heavy smoke was coming through the windows.

Video from the scene shows at least one first responder using a chainsaw to help in fighting the fire.

The Standish deputy fire chief says the location and lack of fire hydrants made it tough to fight.

“Being a narrow camp road in the middle of winter it took a little extra time to get water, a water supply established,” Deputy Chief Benjamin Haskell said. “And it’s hard to get trucks in and out of here, in this area, in this narrow area.”

Investigators say they’re waiting to hear from the homeowners, who weren’t there at the time, to help them figure out how it may have started.

The state fire marshal’s office has also been contacted.
