Bangor firefighters rescued a man from a garbage truck early Friday morning.

A man was sleeping in a Dumpster and “was believed to have been picked up and unknowingly dumped into the trash truck at Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Texas Avenue,” the city fire department wrote in a Facebook post Friday.

Staff walking to work at Westgate Manor heard cries for help coming from the truck and someone called 911, the department added.

“The operator of the truck had no idea a person was in the back,” the post read, in part.

Just before 5 a.m., firefighters worked with the Casella Waste Systems driver to get the person out of the truck. The individual, who did not have a home address, was transported to the hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
