An Auburn man faces multiple charges after police say he drove 109 mph on a busy Auburn road.
Trooper Nathan Jamo was patrolling the eastern lanes of Minot Avenue about 4:40 p.m. Saturday when he saw an Audi A4 approaching him at a high speed, according to the Maine State Police. That section of Minot Avenue is a four-lane two-way road, and traffic was steady from the Saturday evening commute, the state police said.
Jamo clocked the vehicle at 109 mph, more than double the posted speed limit of 50 mph, the state police said.
Jamo was able to stop the driver, who he identified as 19-year-old Benjamin Gosselin.
Gosselin was cited for criminal speeding and failure to produce evidence of insurance, according to the state police. Gosselin also could face a driving to endanger charge if the Androscoggin district attorney’s office decides it is warranted, the state police said.
