The northbound lanes on Interstate 95 in Augusta were temporarily shut down Monday morning as police dealt with a man in a car with a gun.
Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said that a man was sitting alone in a car with a gun on the exit 113 off ramp. Augusta police and state troopers were on the scene.
The Maine Turnpike Authority said at 8:14 a.m. that I-95’s northbound lanes had reopened to traffic, but cautioned drivers to expect delays. The northbound ramp at exit 113 remained closed for a time, but reopened to traffic just after 11 a.m., according to the turnpike authority.
Northbound traffic was temporarily diverted at exit 112 to Civic Center Drive, causing drivers to use secondary roads to return to the interstate in Sidney, according to McCausland.
Southbound traffic on I-95 was not affected.
