Maine Game Wardens rescued three Cumberland County residents northwest of Rangeley on Thursday after their four-wheel-drive vehicle got stuck in snow during a fishing trip.

Samuel Luebbert, Jessica Haskell, and Chad Mason, all 23, of Portland, got stranded in Parkertown Township near Azischos Lake northwest of Rangeley overnight Wednesday. Family members reported them overdue on Thursday morning after they had failed to return home and were unreachable by cell phone.

The group had traveled to the area for a day of fishing but their four-wheel drive vehicle got stuck on an unplowed portion of Lincoln Pond Road, said Mark Latti, spokesman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Game wardens and Rangeley Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Rangeley Fire Department and US Border Patrol members began searching the area Thursday morning. Warden Chief Pilot Jeff Beach found the vehicle at 11 a.m. Game Warden Mike Pierre and four border patrol agents rode snowmobiles and drove a truck to them and winched free the stuck vehicle, Latti said in a statement.

The three had spent the night in the vehicle and were in good health, Latti said.
