The coronavirus pandemic has hit local news organizations hard, cratering local advertising that we rely on at exactly the time factual, well-reported information is needed most. Across the country, dozens of newspapers, many of them already on the edge financially, cut staff or pay, or were forced to close.
Thanks to changes we’ve been making these last several years, the Bangor Daily News is a leaner operation and has become more nimble than many daily papers. The drop in advertising hit us too, though, and we responded by asking our readers to support our public-service mission.
