A 71-year-old man died in a Monday night fire that destroyed a Hampden residence.

The likely body of Paul Spaulding was found at the 59 Kennebec Road residence after a fire was reported at around 10:30 p.m., according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

An autopsy will be completed later on Tuesday to confirm whether it is Spaulding’s body.

The house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and was destroyed from damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Maine fire marshal’s office.
