BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor High School girls basketball team, fresh off its impressive 68-55 win at Oxford Hills of South Paris on Wednesday night, tuned up for the Class AA quarterfinals on Thursday night with a comfortable 54-33 win over Class A rival Brewer at the Red Barry Gym.
Bangor wound up 12-6 and the fourth seed in Class AA and will entertain fifth-seeded Windham, 11-7, in Wednesday night’s AA quarterfinal. The teams split during the regular season with each winning at home.
It was Bangor’s third game in three days and the Rams won all three.
“It has been a great week. It was a challenge playing three games in a row and having to go on the road [twice] for a two or two and a half hour trip,” said Bangor coach Jay Kemble, referring to the 131-mile (one way) trip to South Paris and 109-mile junket to Edward Little High School in Auburn where the Rams posted a 47-23 triumph on Tuesday.
Brewer wound up 5-13 and will be the eighth seed for the Class A playoffs. The Witches have lost six of their last seven but all six losses were to teams that finished in the top four in Class AA or Class A North.

Bangor used an 11-3 run in the first quarter to build an 11-6 lead and outscored Brewer 23-4 in the second period to take a 34-10 advantage into the intermission.
The win was marred by a leg injury suffered by Bangor standout junior point guard Emmie Streams, who had to be helped off the court after falling during a drive down the baseline with 1:21 left in the third period.
She returned to the game on crutches but left after the game with just an ice bag on her knee and without crutches.
Junior center Abbie Quinn had 13 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots for Bangor. Streams added 10 points, three steals and two rebounds before departing. Lilly Rice had eight points and Lily Chandler netted seven to go with three steals.
Mimi Quinn, Abbie’s younger sister, had two points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals and Emily Adams had four points.
Allie Flagg’s eight points and three steals, Kaylee Dore’s six points and five points apiece by Jordan Doak and Mariah Roberts paced Brewer. Roberts also had four rebounds and Doak had three rebounds and two steals.
Jenna McQuarrie chipped in four points and six rebounds and Trea Broussard had four rebounds.
“We played really well,” Quinn said. “Coming off two wins in a row, it was good to come out and work hard again.
“We transitioned really well tonight. We were really good getting up the court and getting back on defense,” Quinn added.
“We worked well as a team together,” agreed guard Laela Martinez, one of three Ram players honored on Senior Night along with twins Rae and Lane Barron. “We passed the ball around and always found the open person.”
Kemble said the goal was to play hard.
“We got some experience for everybody. The concern was to make sure everybody stayed healthy and try to get as many minutes in for different kids that we could possibly get in order to get ready for the postseason,” Kemble said.
The teams were tied 4-4 when Abbie Quinn scored seven unanswered points to begin a 21-4 run spanning the first two periods that made it 25-8.
Following a Roberts basket, Bangor closed out the half on a 9-0 spurt.
