A high school student has been charged after striking a 10-year-old boy with an SUV on Tuesday morning in South Portland.

The boy was struck at around 8 a.m. on Evans Street near the intersection of Hill Street as he was attempting to board a South Portland School Bus, according to a spokesperson for the South Portland Police Department.

The child was taken to the Maine Medical Center, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The girl, who has not been identified, told officials that she did not see the flashing school bus lights, and did not see the 10-year-old. She has been charged with passing a stopped school bus with flashing lights, a Class E offense.
