Cape Elizabeth native and former National Hockey League player Doug Friedman is the new executive director of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.
Friedman started his hockey career at Boston University in the 1990s, according to the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. He then went on to play for the Edmonton Oilers and the Nashville Predators and was assistant captain for several minor league hockey teams. He is now the director of hockey operations at Boston University.
He was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 2016, and replaces former executive director Bill Green, who stepped down to the role of executive producer, according to the organization.
This year’s induction ceremony will be on Oct. 29 at Portland’s Merrill Auditorium, and will be aired on Maine Public Television at 8 p.m. on Nov. 9.
