Belfast police arrested two people and seized 13 animals following a cruelty investigation.

The police received an animal welfare complaint at 37 Achorn Road in Belfast on Oct. 13. There investigators found several dogs and cats, with all showing signs of malnutrition and abuse.

Police seized the animals and brought them to veterinary hospitals.

Kyrsta Sweetland, 24, of Belfast was arrested and charged with 13 counts of animal cruelty. The next day, 24-year-old Robert Debeck was arrested and charged with 13 counts of animal cruelty.

Both are being held on $2,500 cash bail and are scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 1 in Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast.
