The Bangor Police Department responded to the Bangor High School on Friday following a report from the FBI that a threat had been made against the school via social media.

The police department was contacted by the FBI’s national threat operations center at around 12:30 p.m., and were informed that a threat of violence toward Bangor High School had been posted to social media, according to Det. Lt. Brent Beaulieu of the Bangor police. Geodata was able to determine the device that the threat was posted from was located inside Bangor High School.

When officers arrived they were able to identify the student responsible for the threatening post. The student is cooperating with the police department, and an investigation is underway.

There is no immediate threat to health and safety, officials said Friday.

No charges have been filed against the student at this time. Further details were not immediately available on Friday afternoon.
