Big changes are in store for Maine this week as a spring-like pattern takes hold over the state.
Wet weather, wind and dramatic temperature swings will be the defining features of this week’s forecast.
Monday will bring a big warmup for the afternoon. Highs will approach 50 in many towns with a mix of sun and clouds and a bit of a breeze.
Tuesday will continue the mild trend.
Highs will be in the mid- to upper 40s with a mix of sun and clouds, with more clouds for the afternoon.
A storm system moves in Tuesday evening with rain developing across the state. Rain then continues off and on through Wednesday. It could be heavy at times and thunder is possible.
Winds also will be quite breezy on Wednesday out of the south, especially along the coast.
With a good amount of rain on top of snow, there could be some minor flooding with the rain on Wednesday.
Rain wraps up Wednesday evening, and a dramatic cold front moves through the state overnight.
Temperatures will plummet from the 50s to the teens, with things freezing up very quickly. There could be a lot of black ice on Thursday morning.
Thursday will briefly return to winter. Highs will be mostly in the 20s with gusty winds and more sunshine.
The cold does not stick around long. Highs are back in the upper 30s to near 40 Friday, with 40s and 50s expected through the weekend.
