Three survivors of a fatal crash in Rumford on Saturday are in stable condition.

An 8-year-old boy died shortly after a crash near 1125 on U.S. Route 2. The boy’s father, Matthew Kellogg, 42, and 5-year-old brother were transported from the crash scene to a local hospital with serious injuries. F. Michael Piveronas, who was also struck in the crash, was transported to a local hospital as well.

According to official reports, Kellogg had been eastbound in a 2016 Subaru Impreza at around 3:13 p.m., when he struck Piveronas, who had been westbound in a 2005 Volvo sedan, the Lewiston Sun Journal reported.

Piveronas did not have any passengers with him at the time of the crash.

The 8-year-old boy, who was unresponsive at the scene of the crash, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The 5-year-old was taken to a local hospital, and then transferred to a Portland hospital for further treatment.

Kellogg and Piveronas were initially taken to a Rumford hospital. Kellogg was transferred to a Lewiston hospital on Saturday evening.

Further details about the crash remain under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
