A fire that damaged a Lincoln Street home Sunday morning began in the kitchen, according to the Brewer Fire Department.
The house was beginning to fill with black smoke when the fire department was called in at 8 a.m. and crews found fire in the kitchen area, the department said.
Brewer called in mutual aid from other departments, including Bangor, Orrington, Holden, Eddington and Dedham/Lucerne. Firefighters quickly squelched the flames.

Homeowner David Winslow said the fire started in his propane gas stove in the kitchen and spread to the living room. Smoke was coming out of the windows and doors and the fire department broke out windows to vent the building, he said.
Firefighters found his cats and gave them oxygen after bringing them to his camper where he was waiting, Winslow said.
All of the appliances, electronics and walls were damaged or destroyed, and the house has to be gutted down to the rafters and the wiring replaced, he said.
Winslow is insured and he is working with the American Red Cross. He has been living in a motel temporarily, he said.
