Maine State Police and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office say a man connected to three armed robberies at church parking lots in Parsonsfield, Cornish and Baldwin was arrested Sunday.
Police arrested Connor McGlone, 27, of Auburn after he bailed out of his vehicle and ran into the woods in Bridgton. He was taken to Bridgton Hospital, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
He was charged with two counts of robbery, and had outstanding warrants for felony theft and robbery in York County and probation revocation from a February robbery charge in Oxford County.
McGlone allegedly threatened to kill a woman in a church parking lot shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday in Parsonsfield, referencing a firearm he did not show her, police said. When he took off in a 2011 silver Subaru, he nearly struck a pedestrian as he headed toward Cornish.
A Cornish resident flagged down state police Sgt. Daniel Hanson at 10:30 a.m. on Route 25 to report that a man pulled a gun on him in the parking lot of a church in that town and demanded his wallet.
Another report came in at 11:19 a.m. saying that a man entered a church in Baldwin, took money from the offering plate and grabbed a woman’s purse before fleeing from the church. He did not show a firearm, the person reporting it told police.
Police caught up with the Subaru on Bliss Road in Baldwin and began chasing it. Police reported seeing McGlone wave a firearm in the vehicle and try to swerve into other vehicles on Route 107 during the chase.
No vehicles were hit and no one was injured, police said.
Police used a immobilization technique just before Bridgton Hospital, and the vehicle went off the road and into a field. McGlone fled on foot.
McGlone was quickly found. He was taken to Bridgton Hospital for evaluation and will be transported to York County Jail.
McGlone allegedly was swerving his vehicle at other vehicles on the road during the police chase. If anyone had close contact with the Subaru, they are encouraged to contact Sgt. Dan Hanson at 207-624-7076.
