Police recovered the body of an unidentified person from the Penobscot River in Greenbush Sunday afternoon.

A report about a body in the river off the main road came into the Penobscot County Regional Communications Center at approximately 2:15 p.m., according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

The person’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta as part of the department’s protocol, the sheriff’s office said.

Maine Warden Service, Maine State Police and the Penobscot County Criminal Investigation Division were involved in the investigation.

No more information will be released until the medical examiner’s office determines the person’s identification, the sheriff’s office said Sunday.
