Julia Gagnon, 22, of Cumberland did not advance to the top five on “American Idol” on Sunday night.

The University of Southern Maine student was one of two competitors who were eliminated from the competition through the show’s viewer voting system. Gagnon had made it to the top seven contestants last week, which is the highest a Maine resident has ever climbed in the singing competition.

She won a platinum ticket during auditions, which meant she skipped directly to the top 24. She made it through eight rounds of eliminations before being cut out of the competition Sunday night, along with McKenna Faith Breinholt of Gilbert, Arizona.

Gagnon sang “Roam” by the B-52s and “Set Fire to the Rain” by Adele.
