A Bangor man has been arrested in the death of a woman on Larkin Street earlier this week.

Richard Keith Thorpe, 42, was charged with murder, according to Bangor police Detective Sgt. Tim Shaw.

Virginia Cookson, 39, was found dead in a Larkin Street home about 9 a.m. Wednesday after a co-worker went to check on her after she failed to show up to work, Shaw said Friday morning.

Bangor police confirmed on Friday that Thorpe is an ex-boyfriend of Cookson.

The Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta ruled her death a homicide on Thursday.

A warrant was issued for Thorpe’s arrest, and he was taken into custody early Friday morning in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

No additional information was immediately available.
