As a poll watcher for the Democrats in the town of Surry, I spent most of the day on Nov. 5 observing how the election was conducted in the Town of Surry. Obviously as a Democrat I am very disappointed at the results. However, what is so important for me (and hopefully others) is that the Surry Town clerk Emily Morrow along with the Surry Tax Collector Darcel Winslow ran, as far as I could see, a near perfect voting experience and election.

Throughout the day, they remained calm, efficient, well organized, helpful, fair, completely transparent and at all times professional. It was an incredibly long day, setting up before the 8 a.m. opening, and going way past the 8 p.m. closing. Tempers never flared and from this observer’s view point, it was simply an incredible job very well done. I think all of Surry owes Emily and Darcel a huge thank you.
