Bangor will get a second Dollar General store, this time on Broadway.

The Bangor Planning Board on Tuesday granted the land development permit for a Dollar General store at 1171 Broadway, next to Tractor Supply Co. The 2.7-acre site that is now undeveloped except for a paved lot.

The single-story building will be roughly 10,600 square feet and have 36 parking spaces, according to the land development permit application. It will be the second Dollar General and sixth dollar store in Bangor.

Four residents who live behind the site spoke during the Planning Board meeting on Tuesday to ask the applicant, Broadway Holdings LLC, to ensure the store’s dumpsters are emptied and deliveries arrive during standard business hours. The neighbors also requested a substantial line of trees and shrubs to serve as a buffer between the store and nearby homes.

The city’s existing Dollar General location is at 97 Oak St. between Hancock and York streets, directly next to a Family Dollar location.

The city requires Broadway Holdings LLC to start building store within one year of the Planning Board approving the project and complete it by Jan. 7, 2027, unless the board grants time extensions, according to the application documents.
