A Lowell man surrendered to police after a day-long stand-off in the Penobscot County town of Lowell on Monday.

The incident started on Sunday at about 4 p.m. when Maine State Police troopers responded to a 911 call from a woman reporting a domestic violence situation, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.

At the house on West Old Main Road, also known as Route 188, police helped the woman to safety, but her husband, Andrew York, 55, of Lowell, remained inside and refused to come out.

Police stayed at the scene attempting to contact York, Moss said.

On Monday at about 2:30 p.m., police negotiators secured York’s surrender. He was arrested without incident and brought to a local hospital for evaluation. After his release, he will be brought to Penobscot County Jail and charged with domestic violence-related offenses, Moss said.

No injuries were reported.

On Monday afternoon, state police had asked the public to avoid West Old Main Road but said there was no immediate danger to the public.
