I feel privileged to have served as an employee of the state of Maine for 37 years. I held positions in six different agencies over five administrations. I am grateful that I was not exposed to the threat of losing my job with a change in government.

The Maine state government provided me with opportunities to provide services rarely found in the private sector. I was always challenged by limited resources, and I needed to be creative and resourceful to achieve my mission. I don’t think I would have ever been considered inefficient or wasteful.

I am dismayed to see federal employees losing their jobs without justification and due to the actions of a few that seem to be enjoying it.

This is a terrible way to treat people who work in the civil service.
