Bangor High School was targeted by a “swatting” hoax on Friday morning.
Someone made a call shortly after 11 a.m. threatening to shoot people and detonate a bomb in the school, according to Sgt. Jason McAmbley, a spokesperson for the Bangor Police Department.
Police were stationed at the school Friday morning to ensure the safety of students, teachers and staff.
The Bangor School Department has placed Bangor High under a “hold action,” where students remain in their classrooms to keep the halls clear. Learning still takes place, but students don’t change classrooms.
“The safety and well-being of your child is our top priority. We will continue to keep you informed about important concerns at our school,” the School Department said in a statement.
McAmbley said that the department determined the call to be a hoax, and after police searched the school and determined there wasn’t a threat, officers left the campus just before 1 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
No additional information was immediately available.
