Bangor’s high-temperature record for June 24 had stood for 30 years, but it didn’t stand a chance on Tuesday.

The high of 98 degrees in the Queen City surpassed the old high mark of 93 degrees reached in 1995, 1975 and 1963, according to the National Weather Service station in Caribou.

Houlton tied its June 24 record with a high of 92 degrees, according to the weather service.

Other recent temperature records in Maine include a 90-degree day in Millinocket on June 6 that tied the heat record for that day last reached in 1967.

On the other end of the scale, Caribou experienced a record low maximum temperature of 45 degrees on May 23. The previous maximum low temperature record of 47 degrees had stood since 1973.
