Police closed a York County road for several hours on Thursday after a discarded piece of a car stereo system was mistaken for a bomb.

The York County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a suspicious object on the side of Lower Guinea Road in Lebanon sometime on Thursday morning, Sheriff William King Jr. said.

The sheriff’s office called in the Maine State Police bomb squad to investigate and closed a roughly 1.5 mile stretch of the road.

An investigation revealed that the object was a discarded audio storage capacitor for a car stereo system, King said.

Shortly before 2 p.m., King announced that the road had been reopened.
