A Maine woman paid her back rent. Her record still says she was evicted. Repayment plans are supposed to help public housing tenants avoid eviction, but in Maine, such deals have instead put it on their permanent records.

Susan Collins was quiet on Donald Trump’s firing of the federal labor statistics chief. The rest of Maine’s congressional delegation criticized the president’s decision, which followed a weaker-than-expected jobs report.

Bangor added a weekly cleaning to its public bathrooms after residents complained of unsanitary conditions. The city has struggled to keep the restrooms in good condition since they were installed a year ago.

A Brewer park will get the first steps of a new amphitheater this fall. The natural wooded area worked for a recent production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” but new seats and an eventual permanent amphitheater are expected to improve future productions.

Recent Maine fishing deaths have put a new focus on safety training and remembrance. A new nonprofit was recently started to help prevent accidents, and lawmakers recently created a commercial safety fund.
