Police on Tuesday found human remains in a field off Route 100 in the Kennebec County town of Clinton.

Maine State Police were helping the Clinton Police Department with a missing person investigation when they made the discovery, state police said in a news release.

The remains have been taken to the chief medical examiner’s office in Augusta for identification and to determine the cause and manner of death, according to state police.
