Two people were taken to a hospital Friday evening after the rental truck they were in crashed into a utility pole in the town of Dixmont.

The “serious” crash was reported at 7:10 p.m. on Route 9 at the Newburgh town line, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Deputies found a rental pickup truck towing an enclosed trailer off the road. The truck had hit several rocks and eventually a utility pole, the sheriff’s office said.

Both occupants were taken to a hospital with injuries.

Route 9 was reduced to a single lane while police were investigating.

The crash remains under investigation.
