Update: The state dismissed the drug trafficking indictment of Lou Ann Smock referred to in this story after a Maine Superior Court judge on April 16 granted a motion to suppress all evidence seized under an Aug. 6, 2025, search warrant because the police affidavit supporting the warrant was not taken under oath of affirmation that the statements it contains are true, as required under the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

A Charleston woman who was on bail for a drug trafficking charge was arrested again on Monday after she was allegedly caught with drugs.

Penobscot County sheriff’s deputies went to a house on Puddle Dock Road at 1:45 p.m. to conduct a proactive bail check on Lou Ann Smock, 67, who is charged with trafficking Schedule W drugs, the sheriff’s office said.

The pending charge is based on a search warrant previously served to Smock during which police allegedly found 1 kilogram of methamphetamine.

During the bail check on Monday, a sheriff’s office supervisor saw Smock trying to conceal or destroy evidence, the sheriff’s office said. The supervisor successfully intervened, stopping Smock from destroying the evidence and found that she was in possession of methamphetamine, according to the sheriff’s office.

Police arrested Smock and took her to Penobscot County Jail. She received two new charges: unlawful possession of Scheduled W drugs, and violation of conditions of release.
