ROCKPORT, Maine — The entrance to MaineHealth Pen Bay Hospital was blocked Friday morning by police and fire vehicles for about an hour.
The call came in at about 5:30 a.m. asking Rockport fire units to stage on Route 1.
A fire truck was blocking the Route 1 entrance to the campus. Rockland, Rockport and Camden police were at the scene.
A hospital spokesperson issued a statement following the hoax.
“Pen Bay Hospital received a call early this morning reporting a potential bomb threat. The hospital immediately enacted security protocols and worked with local law enforcement to assess the situation and sweep the facility. The hospital has been cleared and remains open. Security personnel remain on site as an added precaution. We thank our care team members and local law enforcement for their swift response and coordination. The safety of our patients, care team members, and community is our top priority,” according to the statement.
The hospital was in a lockdown during the hour-long bomb scare.
