A Thomaston man allegedly snatched a bag of drugs from Rockland police officers and swallowed it.

Lance Chipman, 39, has been charged with refusing to submit to arrest or detention, falsifying physical evidence and violating his conditions of release, according to the Rockland Police Department.

Officers were conducting a bail check on Chipman, who was free on a slate of charges, including aggravated drug trafficking, refusing to submit to arrest or detention using physical force, and violating his conditions of release, about 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, the department said Thursday morning.

During a search, officers found a bag of drugs. But Chipman allegedly grabbed the bag from the officers and swallowed it.

He was taken to the hospital to prevent a possible overdose, and afterward, he was taken to the Knox County Jail.
