Unity Environmental University has sold its Unity campus for $6 million.
That comes about three years after the university first listed the 225-acre Quaker Hill campus for sale. Plans to sell the campus date back to at least 2020.
“While difficult, the decision to sell reflects responsible stewardship of institutional resources and positions the university for continued investment in student access, innovation, and long-term sustainability,” Sharon Reishus, chair of the board of trustees, said in a Wednesday statement.
Formerly known as Unity College, the university already has largely moved its class space to its campus at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester and expanded remote learning opportunities in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The university now serves about 10,000 students across the country.
The identity of the buyer hasn’t been disclosed, but the university said that the new owner plans to convert the campus into an “upscale summer camp.”
