Local police on Wednesday arrested an alleged drug trafficker from Massachusetts and the Swanville man accused of helping him make deliveries.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Belfast Police Department and Waldo County Sheriff’s Office had been receiving information for several months that Larry Metcalf, 80, of Swanville, was giving out-of-state drug traffickers rides to local houses to sell drugs, the MDEA said in a news release.

On Wednesday agents learned that Metcalf was meeting someone at the bus station in Belfast. There, they saw a man arrive on a bus from Massachusetts and get into Metcalf’s car.

Police pulled over the car and searched the two men and the vehicle, finding 55 grams of Fentanyl and 250 grams of cocaine from Chala-Ramirez, the MDEA said.

Chala-Ramirez was taken to Waldo County Jail to await his initial appearance in court. His bail was set at $25,000 cash.

Metcalf was issued a summons and will appear in Waldo County Superior Court on Aug. 5.

The MDEA said it expects more arrests in the case.
