A Rockland man entered not guilty pleas Monday to 17 violations of Maine hunting laws.

Dustin Dean, 23, was initially charged Nov. 15, 2025, with night hunting in Rockport.

A criminal complaint was filed June 9 charging him with 17 counts that include one count of night hunting, six counts of exceeding the bag limit on deer, one count of fraudulently obtaining a hunting license, four counts of failing to register the animal after it was hunted, four counts of unlawful possession of a wild animal, and one count of hunting an antlerless deer without a permit.

The summons issued to Dean in November listed his address as Warren but the June criminal complaint listed his residence as Rockland.

The fraudulent license charge alleges he obtained or possessed it on Oct. 30, 2025, in Warren. The unlawful possession of a wild animal charges allege the offenses occurred Jan. 23 of 2026 in Warren.

Night hunting and exceeding the bag limit on deer are the most serious offenses, classified as a Class D offense which carries a maximum possible sentence of a year in jail. The other offenses are Class E which carries a maximum sentence of six months.

A Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife game warden handled the investigation and issued the original summons.
