The first two days of July sent parts of Aroostook County soaring into weather record territory.

Caribou surpassed a 12-year-old record temperature during the period, according to the National Weather Service.

The city hit 90 degrees on Wednesday and broke its record for July 1, which was 89 degrees, set in 2014. Then on Thursday, it likely tied its record high of 91 degrees, a weather service report said.

Presque Isle is also believed to have broken its 12-year heat record of 91 for July 2, with a high of 91.9 degrees recorded Thursday.

Elsewhere, as of 6 p.m., Frenchville had measured a high of 86 Thursday afternoon, and Houlton, 91. Both were a few degrees shy of record highs for this date.

For Friday, July 3, Frenchville is expected to reach 87, Caribou 90, Presque Isle 91 and Houlton 93, according to weather service forecasts. Cooler temperatures are expected on Sunday.
