It’s sad that many millions of dollars will be spent on the U.S. Senate race between Susan Collins and Graham Platner. It’s hard to imagine they will actually change many votes. Collins is acknowledged to be one of the most effective senators. To me, Platner has not proved himself to be more than mediocre.
For high school, Platner started at one of the country’s most elite and expensive prep schools. But he came home. The local high school apparently wasn’t good enough and his family paid thousands of dollars to send him to John Bapst where he seems to have graduated with no particular distinction.
For college he tried George Washington University. He dropped out and never graduated.
He joined the military, where he was disabled by PTSD and other injuries, which gives him monthly financial benefits that are his primary means of support.
He calls himself an oyster farmer. He admits he doesn’t earn much, and his main customer is his mother’s restaurant.
Why would anyone vote for this mediocre man who claims to be disabled and have PTSD but wants an important and stressful job in Washington, for which he has no relevant experience? I’ll vote for Susan Collins.
