Eddington is focused on “filling the remainder of the term” of the school board member wanted for domestic violence charges, Town Manager Shawna Hinkley said Tuesday.
Although Brittany Wood, a member of the Regional School Unit 63 School Board that oversees Holden, Clifton and Eddington, has not resigned or been recalled from her position, Eddington is working with the district to fill her seat when it’s vacated, Hinkley said.
Wood has an active arrest warrant for endangering the welfare of a child, a Class D misdemeanor, and domestic violence aggravated assault, a Class B felony, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s office said Friday. Wood’s charges stem from a May 31 infant drug overdose in Eddington.
Although Wood hasn’t resigned, she did not attend the board’s previous two meetings in May and June. If she misses the board’s August meeting, which Hinkley said is likely, she will be removed from her seat for violating the board’s absenteeism policy.
“We don’t foresee her coming to the August meeting,” Hinkley said.
Eddington officials will then appoint a resident to the board for the remainder of Wood’s term, Hinkley said. Wood’s term will end June 2027.
RSU 63 Superintendent Sheila Caldwell did not respond to a request for comment.
