The owner of a sailboat was burned Monday night when a fire broke out aboard the vessel at a South Portland marina.

The blaze broke out in the 28-foot boat’s galley about 10:30 p.m. at Aspasia Marina on Front Street, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The owner was adding alcohol fuel to a cooking stove when the vapors ignited, causing an explosion and fire, Moss said Wednesday morning.

The owner was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of minor burns.

The boast was a total loss.

Investigators believe the stove was still hot from being used earlier, leading to the vapors igniting, according to Moss.

The fire was ruled accidental.
