A woman was injured late Friday morning after falling about 30 feet off a cliff near Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park.
The Coast Guard was notified at about 11:50 a.m. and responded by boat from Southwest Harbor. The woman, who has not been publicly identified, is believed to have fallen into the water and may have been pulled out by others at the scene, LCDR Blake Maurer, incident management division chief for the Coast Guard’s Northern New England Sector said on Friday afternoon.
Two emergency responders repelled down the cliff to render aid.
Because of the rocky coastline and shallow water, the Coast Guard sent another boat with a deployable skiff, from which they were able to recover the woman and take her by boat to Seal Harbor where EMS workers on land took her to a higher level of care.
“The initial assessment is that she had a head laceration and potential broken bones and bodily bruising. Her current medical condition is unknown,” Maurer said.
The loop road in Acadia National Park was closed near Sand Beach after the incident, which was reported by the park as a medical emergency.
